Timeline

The Voting period is taking place from Apr 22, 2024 to May 6, 2024. We recommend you allocate your time during this process in the following way:

• Create Lists (Apr 22, 2024 - Apr 30, 2024): Create Lists in your area of expertise.

  There are many applications in FIL-RetroPGF. You are not responsible for reviewing all of them or knowing everything about every contribution category! Instead, create lists in your area of expertise and use Lists created by others in areas you feel less comfortable about.

  • A List contains a set of applications, chosen from the total set of RetroPGF applicants, together with a suggested OP allocation for each application.
  • Lists facilitate knowledge sharing among badgeholders, you can use Lists to defer to experts on applications you’re less familiar with by easily replicating or modifying votes.
  • Each List should reference some methodology for allocating OP to each application based on the List creator’s expertise and evaluation of relevant data.
  • Only badgeholders can create Lists.
  • NOTE: you are not required to use Lists and are free to use other criteria when allocating funding to other projects if you feel

• Lists allow badgeholders to leverage the expertise of other badgeholders when they cast their own votes, while maintaining the agency to combine or modify their votes based on individual preferences.

• (May 1 - May 6): Iterate on your ballot and leverage Lists created by others and cast your votes.

Guiding Principles

Filecoin’s first Retroactive Public Goods Funding round will take inspiration from Optimism’s goal to implement impact = profit — the principle that positive impact to the collective should be rewarded with profit to the individual. This principle serves as a North Star, motivating the creation of a more productive and fair economy.

• Impact signifies the value a contributor has created for the Filecoin Ecosystem.
• Profit signifies the value a contributor has extracted from the Filecoin Ecosystem.
• The gap signifies the difference between a contributor’s impact and profit. (e.g. impact - profit = the gap)

RetroPGF fills the gap between a contributors impact and profit resulting in a state of impact = profit.

Voting Process

You vote in RetroPGF by expressing how much FIL each application should receive to fill the gap between the impact they created for the Filecoin Ecosystem and the profit they received.
