Badgeholders play a critical role in the FIL-RetroPGF mechanism. They sense and evaluate the impact signal and decide the level of funding to award. Thus, proper badgeholder selection is critical to ensure that the vision of RetroPGF is actualized.
This document describes the process by which badgeholders were selected to participate in FIL-RetroPGF-1.
Selection Process
Badgeholders were proposed by FIL-RetroPGF-1 funders, proportional to their contribution to the FIL-RetroPGF-1 funding pool.
Criteria for selection included:
- Prior contributions and deep knowledge of the Filecoin ecosystem.
- Alignment with the principles of RetroPGF, and understanding of the goals and methodology of RetroPGF.
- Fresh and diverse perspectives.
In addition the badgeholder set aims to give representation across the Filecoin stakeholder groups:

The rationale is to have sufficient representation from each group, which provides two benefits:
- Expertise - the combined expertise of these groups should allow for proper vetting of applications as they impact Filecoin.
- Diversity - while stakeholders interact with each other, they may have more knowledge of one area than the other. This diversity of thought is desired when assessing the impact a particular project may have had on Filecoin.
Selected Badgeholders
- More than 30 badgeholders have been invited on behalf of the round's funders: Filecoin Foundation, Protocol Labs, web3mine and Titan Network.
- Invitations to badgeholders were given in proportion to the amount each funder pledged to the round.
- The badgeholders who accepted their invitation make up a cross section across Token Holders, Clients, Devs, Researchers, and SPs.
- All voting badges will be recorded as attestations to the Filecoin chain.
