Many critical components of blockchains depend on open source and public contributions: miner client implementations, protocol research and development, and user documentation, to name a few. However, public goods are by nature non-excludable and non-rivalrous and, therefore, inadmissible to the same means of funding as private goods, leaving invaluable contributions to open source networks under-recognized.
RetroPGF is an upgrade to Filecoin’s core economic mechanisms that addresses this funding gap. It uses Optimism-style retroactive public goods funding to reward contributions that have positively impacted Filecoin.
In essence, fund in recognition rather than anticipation: build it, and they shall fund.
On this site, you will find all the documentation and resources related to this effort.
Fund contributions that have generated a recognized impact on the Filecoin ecosystem using Optimism-style retroactive public goods funding.
Fund in recognition rather than anticipation: build it, and they shall funds.
Our vision is to create a flywheel for public goods funding that begins with the Filecoin community and expands to advancing scientific and technological public goods more widely.
